Tensions in the Putao region remain high due to ongoing military activities, and the road connecting Htang Ga village to the eastern part of Putao has been closed for over a month, according to local residents.
Travel between Htang Ga and Ding Hkyet villages has been blocked since clashes broke out in the area on October 11. Locals also report that individuals who had traveled to the Putao region for various reasons at that time remain stranded and unable to return home.
“The road hasn’t reopened yet, and everyone is really struggling. There’s a possibility the situation could become even more tense militarily. Among those stuck on the Ding Hkyet side trying to get back to town are mothers who recently stopped breastfeeding their babies and schoolchildren as well. They can’t return now. We also cannot contact them, and they are stuck,” a local resident said.
KIA affiliated joint forces are reportedly active near Ding Hkyet village, east of Putao, while military council aligned joint forces are active around Htang Ga village. Locals say that due to the rising military tension, it has become increasingly difficult for them to carry out their usual livelihood activities in the forests and mountains.
Residents also expressed concern that clashes could break out at any time, as military council troops have reinforced their presence in the Putao area and have intensified their troop deployments and movements.
