It has been learned that the Mai Ja Yang College, located in the area controlled by the Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA) near the Chinese border, has begun accepting new students for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Anyone who has passed Grade 12 in government schools or any students who passed Grade 10 in the 2023-2024 academic year may attend, and those who have passed Grade 10 in KIO schools are also eligible, according to the announcement.

The application period opens today, June 16, and will close on June 20. Classes are set to commence on June 23.

Mai Ja Yang College mainly offers courses in Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Bachelor of Arts in English, Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science, Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies.

Due to the fighting between the KIA and the government army that began in 2011, many young people have been unable to attend school. As a result, the Kachin Education Committee established the college in 2015. It is a college under the KIO Department of Education.
