Due to ongoing conflict and instability, people in the Maina displaced persons (IDP) camp and those living along the Ding Gri Hka river are facing increasing difficulties in their daily lives and livelihoods. The situation is particularly severe for those in the Maina area who are unable to return to their original homes.

In the Ding Gri Hka area, the presence of militay backed militia has led to increased insecurity and restrictions on movement, making it difficult for residents to travel freely or carry out their usual activities. As a result, people from Maina are unable to return to their villages and must remain in the camp, relying on limited aid and support.

“Because of the presence of militia and the ongoing conflict, people cannot go back to their homes. There are many restrictions, and the situation is not safe. For now, we have no choice but to stay in the Maina camp. Life in the camp is difficult, and the support we receive is not enough,” said one resident.

The current difficulties are not only due to the conflict but are also worsened by the lack of stable jobs and income. Many are unable to farm or work as they used to, and food shortages are becoming more common. People are struggling to find enough to eat, and the future remains uncertain.

The Maina IDP camp, located near Myitkyina, is now overcrowded, and the living conditions are poor. Many families are forced to share small spaces, and there is a shortage of basic necessities. Some people have tried to move to other camps or areas, but security concerns and travel restrictions make this difficult.

In Waimaw Township, the situation is further complicated by the use of drones and other surveillance methods, making it even harder for people to move around safely. Displaced people from Chihpwi, Pangwa, and Kanpaiti are also seeking shelter in Waimaw and Wa Shawng areas, but the challenges remain severe.
