The section of the Mandalay–Myitkyina highway between Sapyae Nanta and Pyae Gyi, has reopened, resulting in hundreds of vehicles traveling northbound, with drivers reporting that entry into Myitkyina city is likely possible within today.
Due to the recent clear weather, with no rainfall, roads began reopening from 9:30 AM onwards. As a result, hundreds of commercial trucks, passenger vehicles, and six-wheeled trucks are now en route from Mandalay.
As for the southbound lane from Myitkyina to Mandalay, traffic remains halted in Shwebo because the main Mandalay-Shwebo Union Highway has not yet reopened.
However, if the dry weather continues, road access is expected to resume in the coming days.
The Mandalay–Myitkyina highway, had previously been closed due to damage from heavy rainfall and flooding.
