According to the acquaintances who are close with the Checkpoint, 40 youths who came from Sagaing to work at Kachin State were investigated and arrested by the State Administration Council (SAC) on 19 February.
“On February 18th, the SAC demanded 50 youths for recruitment in MawHan. MawHan is a mining area, so there aren’t many youths in the village. We don’t have any idea how they reconciled with the officials from the village. On February 19th, the SAC soldiers stationed at the Nan Si Aung Checkpoint and the prison officers from Mohnyin (10) mile Prison checked all the travelers’ NRC, and arrested and detained the travelers whose ages are between 20s and 30s with Prison cars,” said a local from Maw Han Village.
After such an arrest, the number of cars going to Sagaing from the upper part of Kachin State decreased and female drivers and female assistant drivers are seen more often on the vehicles and trucks going through the route.
Previously, there was only Nan Si Aung checkpoint at the border of Sagaing and Kachin States, but since the Conscription Law was enacted, there were three additional checkpoints stationed at the border such as a (10) miles exit checkpoint, a Checkpoint between Thar Yar Kong and Nyaung Kaing and a checkpoint at the village entrance.
Since the promulgation of the Conscription Law, martial law has been issued between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM and the arrests of youths who go out for a walk and young couples who are dating near the river bank have occurred.
Recently, travelers said that the SAC soldiers arrested the travelers by checking their age and their Region and Divisions’ number such as 5/, 12/, 13/ from their NRC at the Military checkpoint from Namti View Point on the highway of Myitkyina-Mohnyin.
