The National Defense and Security Council has declared a state of emergency for 63 townships from nine regions and states, including five townships from Kachin State, according to yesterday’s announcement.

The five townships from Kachin State under the newly declared state of emergency are: Sumprabum Township, Shwegu Township, Injanyang Township, Sawlaw Township, and Chipwi Township.

The order states that the state of emergency will last 90 days, or three months. The announcement cited the need to quell escalating armed violence, to ensure regional stability, peace, and law enforcement as the reasons for these measures.

Additionally, the military administration order was further declared in these townships by the National Defense and Security Council, aiming to restore normal administrative functions, village tranquility, and rule of law.
