Military Airstrike on Hpakant-Towards Mawwan Side

An airstrike by the military occurred yesterday, July 20, at around 4:00 PM, targeting the area from Hpakant towards Mawwan, according to local sources.

“Around Mawmau Layang, Mawwan Kalay, Mawwan Gyi, the fighting is intense right now. The authorities have blocked movement to those areas and are pushing offensives in that direction. Today’s airstrike was on that side as well,” a Hpakant resident reported yesterday.

Though movement towards Mawmau Layang, Mawwan Kalay, and Mawwan Gyi is blocked and fighting remains heavy, residents of Hpakant and Lone Khin towns continue with their daily routines, according to the same source.

Previously, on July 18, between 5:40 PM and 6:00 PM, the military conducted two jet airstrikes on Hpakant Blakha village.

In addition, government forces stationed at Hpakant strategic hill shelled the area, resulting in civilian casualties among street traders and passersby near the Hpakant high school.

Recently, not only has the military targeted active conflict zones in Hpakant, but it has also carried out daily airstrikes on areas with no active clashes.
