Military junta forces and allied militia groups are reportedly arbitrarily looting and consuming the property of civilians in the Tanai gold mining areas, according to local sources.

“They are currently using and consuming items from houses in the Welo Gold Mining area. They go from one house to another, entering and using whatever they want. They take valuable items and money,” said a gold mine worker from the area.

Civilians in the Tanai gold mining areas have been working and sustaining their livelihoods there, but since December last year, the military junta has carried out aerial bombings and attacks on these areas.

In addition, militia groups reportedly ordered all civilians to flee the area. After the civilians fled, the forces have continued looting and consuming their property up to the present time.

At present, mining and livelihood activities are no longer possible in areas such as Welo, Rakhine Kone, and Yay Chaung. Military forces have taken control of these locations, and civilians have suspended all work, according to sources.
