On June 12, 2025, in Hpakant Township, an area generating significant revenue for both the Myanmar military (Tatmadaw) and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)-company vehicles and buildings inside jade mining compounds have been repeatedly set on fire in recent days.

A local resident stated, “The military has only been stationed around the Hpakant-Maw Si Sa Pagoda area for about two weeks. They enter company compounds, arrest and beat people, and set fire to vehicles used for mining, as well as buildings inside the compounds.”

Since late May, the military has deployed to the Hpakant-Maw Si Sa Pagoda area, with frequent heavy artillery fire. Company vehicles such as dump trucks and earthmovers used in jade mining have been set ablaze.

In the first week of June, the military also set fire to not only vehicles like dump trucks but also buildings at mining company sites in Hpakant Township.

Additionally, on the afternoon of June 10, machinery used for mining at U Zaw Naing Htay company in Maw Si Sa was burned by both the military and allied militias.

Locals report that only vehicles and buildings at company sites not cooperating with the military have been targeted for arson and destruction.
