Military Commission troops in Myitkyina are reportedly stopping and inspecting commuters in various places at any time, and seizing all items and cash found on them, according to a local resident of Myitkyina.

“They are stationed there all the time, they just stop people whenever they feel like checking. What’s worse is that along the Charapati road, they even seize people’s cash. If they see anything they like among the belongings you carry, they just take it. You can’t say anything. It’s just like being robbed. Even when we need to go outside for something urgent, we’re afraid,” a resident said.

Since the start of the Military Commission’s takeover, cases of theft and robbery in the area have reportedly increased day by day. Locals say the current administration, which claims responsibility for governing the country, has not taken any action to address or resolve the situation, leaving residents to move around in constant insecurity.

In addition, it is reported that within Myitkyina, incidents of motorcycle snatching, purse snatching, and chain snatching occur at least three times a week, mostly carried out by strong, active young men.
