The Military Council’s order to allow the distribution of HIV, TB, and malaria medicines only in hospitals and clinics under its administration could make things more difficult for people in remote areas, according to civil society organizations.
On August 7, the Military Council announced that HIV, TB, and malaria medicines would no longer be allowed to be distributed by INGOs, NGOs, and other organizations, except at hospitals and clinics under its control.
As a result, people in remote areas who rely on these medicines for treatment of HIV, TB, and malaria may now face greater difficulty in accessing them, civil society groups said.
In addition, most residents living in remote areas of Kachin State’s border regions currently rely primarily on medical supplies provided by civil society organizations.
However, since the Military Council has declared that these medicines can only be obtained from its hospitals and clinics, residents from remote areas such as Injang Yang, Sumprabum, and Hkawng Lang Hpu, far from the urban center, are likely to face even greater difficulties, the groups said.
