Military Council Carries Out Airstrikes on Areas Where Elections Could Not Be Held in Kachin State

In Kachin State, civilians were reportedly injured after the Military Council carried out airstrikes on areas where it was unable to hold elections.


The Military Council conducted elections on 28 December. It is reported that on and around the election days, airstrikes were carried out not only in areas where elections were held but also in areas where elections could not take place.


In Njang Yang Township, Tangbau Village where elections could not be conducted was reportedly bombed at around 9:00 p.m. As a result of the airstrike, two houses were damaged and four civilians were injured.


The village targeted by the airstrike is located only about five miles from the Myitsone area and is known to be inhabited mainly by a small number of villagers and gold miners.


In addition, on the same days, in Kantawgyi Village area of Bhamaw Township, although there was no fighting, indiscriminate aerial attacks by the Military Council reportedly caused damage to houses and injuries to some civilians.


Earlier, on 22 December, the Military Council also carried out an airstrike on a football field in Manma Lin Village, resulting in injuries to four civilians.
