Military Council Forces Resume Military Activities in Waingmaw Township; People’s Militias Set Up Camp Near Bala Min Htin Bridge in Maina Village

Local residents in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, report that military activities have resumed in recent days.

“Recently, security has tightened around Maina near Bala Min Htin Bridge. Previously, the military mainly checked vehicles, but since this morning, they have also been stopping and inspecting motorcycles. People’s militias have occupied positions near the Maina IDP camp and are conducting inspections,” said a local resident of Maina.

Although there were previous military activities, no forces had established positions near Maina until this week. It is now known that people’s militias have set up camps near the Maina IDP camp.

“Yes, near the Maina IDP camp, the people’s militias have taken positions. Since our IDPs are returning home now, they are transporting their belongings. The inspections and extortions are causing disruptions. The military situation is intensifying, which explains why forces are establishing positions,” a local woman added.

On May 28, clashes occurred between both sides in Waingmaw-Sang Hka and Khatcho areas, and fighting remains intense around Lamyang and Wuyan village.

According to some locals, the military council is reinforcing its forces around the Wa Shawng area, while both sides maintain camps close to each other in the Wuyan area, keeping residents on alert.
