On July 22, 2025, reports indicate that the Myanmar military council is forcibly conscripting eligible youths nationwide using various pretexts. The military is also implementing strict measures such as restricting foreign travel and tightening checks on travelers to facilitate these conscriptions. According to sources, the number of youths already conscripted has reached nearly 70,000.
For each training batch, the military is reportedly gathering and instructing at least around 4,000 youths every time. Since the conscription law was enacted, the regime has increased recruitment efforts, with conscription trainings now reaching session number fifteen as of July 2025.
In response, the National Unity Government (NUG) issued a call on July 21 urging forcibly conscripted youths to join resistance forces whenever feasible. The NUG emphasized that if these youths find an opportunity, they should defect and support the resistance.
The military council claims to provide legal and military training after conscripting these youths by force. The crackdown on eligible youths for military service has intensified across the country since the enforcement of the conscription law.
