Near Tigyaing town in Sagaing Region, military council’s naval groups that had rested overnight were reported by nearby locals to have resumed departure this morning, July 25, heading towards Katha town.

“They rested at Tigyaing and even left some weapons behind. Then this morning, they proceeded towards upper Katha,” said locals from the nearby area.

The naval groups of the military council, which traveled along the Ayeyarwady River route from Mandalay, arrived in Tigyaing town on July 24, and reportedly left some weapons on the boats.

Furthermore, Brigade 11 of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has warned to closely monitor the proximity movements of the military council’s boats on the Ayeyarwady River and cautioned to prepare for avoidance of military confrontations.

Although some boats were damaged during an interception attack by People’s Defense Forces (PDF) in Thapyaykyin Township while the naval groups advanced from Mandalay, the remaining vessels continued the advance and rested overnight within Tigyaing Township.

Later, after leaving some weapons behind, they continued upriver towards Katha and are expected to reach Banmaw for further advancement, according to military analysts’ estimations.
