At around 7 a.m. this morning, August 25, over 100 troops from the military council entered Hpakant town in full force and opened fire on local civilians.
The force of more than 100 soldiers advanced from Maw Si Zar toward Hpakant. As they entered the town and reached the Pan Tin Bridge checkpoint, they shot four local residents.
Among those who were shot, a local woman was hit in the face and died at the scene, while three other men sustained serious injuries.
According to a local resident "They don’t even want to see a dog crossing their path, let alone people. Whether it was deliberate or not, they just shoot when they encounter someone. At the Pan Tin Bridge gate, even the police who came out to look were shot at and hit. The dead are already gone. Just yesterday evening, a drone bomb exploded near Uru Bridge by the houses, but luckily no one was hurt."
In recent days, indiscriminate heavy weapons shelling and drone bomb attacks by the military council have caused not only the destruction of local civilians’ homes but also many civilian casualties.
