It has been reported that since November 1, military forces have been conducting operations in the Hpakant area dressed in civilian clothing.
Following artillery shelling near Hpakant-Yuma village on the night of October 31, it was reported that in the early morning of November 1, soldiers in civilian clothes were moving around and carrying out military operations.
Locals said that because of the presence of these soldiers operating in civilian clothing, people in the area have been warning each other and moving cautiously. It is also reported that members of the Shan Ni Army (SNA) are among the troops involved in these operations.
Currently, military council forces are stationed in various locations across the Hpakant area, including Hpakant Strategic Hill, Lone Khin, Maw Wan Kalay, Maw Wan Gyi, Maw Mau Layang, Maw Si Zar, Taung Pyo, Sharaw Hka, Maw Taung, and San Chyoi villages.
Since early June, military council forces have been conducting operations in the Hpakant area. Due to airstrikes and artillery attacks by the junta, nearly 100 civilians have been killed, according to a local social organization working in the area.
On the night of October 31, around 9 p.m., heavy artillery was fired from the junta’s Hpakant-based tactical command and from a Hill base in Mashi Kathtawng. One shell landed and exploded inside the Yuma-Sein Lin Company compound, causing damage to several houses.
