Residents report that tensions have escalated between the two sides in Kachin State recently, and the military council forces have started occupying urban areas and conducting military activities.

“In Myitkyina town, security patrols and movements have intensified day and night. The military is more active at night, including arrests, and it seems KIA is also gathering troops. Because of this, security checkpoints and patrols in town at night have increased, and people must be cautious when moving around,” said a local resident.

Military checkpoints and inspections have been conducted in road intersections in town from around 8 PM onwards. People are advised not to go out if possible.

“Though it’s inside the town, it’s no longer safe. Both sides are gathering troops. But if the KIA calls someone, they can be questioned and released. With the military side, no information comes out, so it’s best not to go outside unless absolutely necessary,” the resident added.

The military council has intensified night operations in Myitkyina town, including arresting young people at popular KTV venues, and increasing inspections especially on Namjim Road and Charapati Road, according to locals.
