Military Junta Conducts Airstrikes on Non Conflict Areas

It has been reported that the Military Council is continuously conducting airstrikes, including bombings, on Mukchyik and Nam Wa villages, areas where no clashes are occurring amid intense aerial and heavy weapons attacks in the battle for Lamyang village, Waimaw area.


Since clashes broke out in Lamyang village, Waimaw area, in the last week of August, the military has frequently carried out airstrikes on Lamyang and its surrounding villages. The Military Council troops have been launching assaults on Lamyang village, controlled by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), since August 27. The most intense fighting occurred in early September, with the Military Council utilizing air support for resistance.


The conflict is taking place in Lamyang village and its surrounding areas, approximately ten miles from Waimaw town. In addition to airstrikes, the Northern Command is also conducting daily heavy weapon attacks on these areas.


On August 31, the military conducted a jet fighter bombing raid on Nam Wa village in Waimaw area. This attack resulted in injuries to five internally displaced family members and the death of a 7 year old child.


The Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW) has also issued a statement accusing the Military Council of increasingly targeting civilians with heavy weapons and engaging in indiscriminate shelling.
