The military junta continues to carry out airstrikes using warplanes in the Hpakant area, according to reports.
Today, July 16, at around 12:10 PM, fighter jets conducted an aerial bombing attack. However, details on the exact target and casualties are not yet confirmed, said a local resident from Hpakant.
Additionally, on July 15, at around 11:40 AM, the junta military troops launched another bombing attack using aircraft on Maw Mau Hill and Maw Mau Layang side. They also attacked with machine gun fire, it was reported.
On the same day, at around 1:40 PM, another bombing occurred on Waimaw – Lamyang village area by a military aircraft flying from Myitkyina, residents said. In Myitkyina city, at around 4:00 AM today, at least three rounds of heavy artillery shelling were also heard, according to local sources.
“At around 4 AM, a shell landed inside the residential area near the Education Office. Two people got injured. At first, I thought it was very close because the mortar blast sound was so loud. The other explosions were also very loud.
The distance from the heavy shelling was really close. It could have been 122mm or 155mm, not sure, I didn’t see any flashes—just heard the mortar bursts. Living in town feels like waiting every day for death,” said a resident of Myitkyina. On July 14, junta warplanes also bombed the Maw Mau Hill area, destroying a school building.
Currently, in Hpakant, armed clashes between the military junta and the joint KIA forces remain intense. The military continues to launch attacks using warplanes, drones, and heavy artillery, it is reported.
