It has been reported that the military junta resumed intensified military operations in the Hpakant area starting from November 9. As a result, clashes have occurred as joint KIA forces launched counterattacks.
The junta troops reportedly launched heavy offensives from Lawar village toward the Hpakant-Mawsi Zar and Lone Khin areas, leading to direct clashes in which two civilians were killed and several others injured. In addition, artillery fire was launched from the Hpakant military base toward civilian residential areas.
On November 10, exchanges of gunfire also broke out between the junta forces and joint KIA troops near Lone Khin village. Locals said that gunfire could be heard around Mawsi Zar Hill, a monastery, the golf course, Myauk Kone, and nearby farmlands.
Furthermore, at around 1:25 p.m., a jet aircraft arriving from Myitkyina dropped at least three bombs in the area of the junta’s Infantry Battalion No. 26 base.
It is reported that the junta has been conducting military offensives in the Hpakant region in an effort to regain control of territories ahead of the upcoming elections, leading to frequent clashes with the KIA.
