It has been reported that in Hpakant’s Seng Tawng village, on September 20, without any clashes taking place, the Military Council fired heavy artillery indiscriminately, causing injuries to some civilians.

The shells fired by the Military Council landed inside Ward (3) of Seng Tawng, injuring some civilians and destroying two houses.According to sources in Hpakant, due to phone and internet difficulties, it remains difficult to ascertain details about the injured civilians at this time.

On September 19 as well, forces under the Military Council, including the Shan Ni Militia, dropped three bombs by drone over Htung Bu village where civilians reside. The attack destroyed civilian homes and buildings, killing one man and one woman.

As the current military situation in Hpakant has become increasingly tense, most local residents have fled, while IDPs sheltering in monasteries and Churches in Hpakant town have also hoisted white flags and begun fleeing toward Myitkyina. Residents say the Military Council is deliberately instilling fear among civilians as part of its preparations for the election.
