Due to heightened military tensions along the Myitkyina-Hpakant-Ledo road, local villagers have been forced to flee and seek refuge.

Fierce clashes between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Brigade No. (9) and the State Administration Council (SAC) forces continue in the vicinity of Nam Ya village in Hpakant region, with the SAC conducting airstrikes as of today.

The fighting began on May 1 near the Om Kahtawng outpost below Nam Ya village, where KIA and SAC troops engaged in combat. Today, joint KIA forces intercepted SAC troops advancing toward Nam Ya village. A local source reported that a jet fighter from Myitkyina carried out an airstrike during the clash.

The SAC troops had launched a large-scale offensive from the Kamaing side when KIA forces intercepted them, triggering the battle. Sources in the region suggest that since the SAC troops were advancing in full force, splitting their columns toward Hpakant town, revolutionary forces likely initiated the attack to counter the threat.

Additionally, joint KIA forces have been conducting intense assaults since early May (1st) against military outposts stationed at Lawa Prayer Mountain along the Hukawng-Ledo road. As of today, military tensions remain high between the two sides.

Although some Facebook pages claim that joint KIA forces have fully captured Lawa Prayer Mountain as of May 2, Pajau Media has not independently verified this information.

Due to escalating military tensions along the Myitkyina-Hpakant-Ledo road, local villagers continue to flee, with most taking shelter in Hpakant town’s Long Hkin village tract and nearby areas.
