Commander in Chief Min Aung Hlaing has pledged that state duties will be transferred once the upcoming elections are held, during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the afternoon of September 25 at the Kremlin Palace in Russia.

He stated that international observer groups would be invited during the elections, and that once a free and fair multi party democratic general election is successfully held in Myanmar, state responsibilities would be handed over in line with democratic standards.

According to the military controlled Election Commission, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) will field over 1,000 candidates, making it the largest contestant in the elections planned by the junta. The National Unity Government (NUG) and revolutionary forces, however, have declared that the election scheduled for December 28 will be an illegal sham.
