Myanmar's Ministry of Health has released a public health advisory urging citizens to guard against monsoon-related respiratory illnesses, particularly seasonal influenza and COVID-19.

While COVID-19 has been reclassified from pandemic to endemic status, similar to seasonal flu, health authorities stress the continued importance of following recommended precautions.

No COVID-19 related deaths have been reported recently in Myanmar. However, officials anticipate increased cases of respiratory symptoms including fever, nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing and throat irritation during the rainy period, calling for proactive prevention efforts.

The warning comes as internally displaced persons camps in Kachin State report growing flu outbreaks after recent heavy rainfall and flooding. "We have three major camps in the Waingmaw-Manwin Dinggum Yang area," explained one displaced resident. "Nearly everyone - adults and children alike - has fallen ill recently, though we can't say for certain if it's related to the weather conditions."

Medical teams have identified the Hka Nan and Moke Kyit displacement camps as particularly affected areas currently facing critical shortages of medicines and medical equipment.

The health alert coincides with ongoing intense fighting between KIA forces and military troops across Kachin State, where thousands of civilians remain displaced in remote mountainous regions.
