Myanmar’s military council has announced that more than 300 people have been arrested nationwide for allegedly obstructing or interfering with the election law enacted by the regime.

According to a statement released by the junta, a total of 335 people have been arrested so far for actions deemed to hinder the election law imposed by the military authorities.

The announcement was made by Deputy Senior General Tun Tun Naung, Minister of Home Affairs, during a meeting of the Election Period Security Supervision Committee held by the military council on January 6.

As of January 5, official figures show that among the 335 detainees, 275 are men and 60 are women. The military council promulgated the election related law on July 30, 2025, stating that under existing laws, offenders could face a minimum sentence of three years in prison up to the death penalty.

The junta also announced that the remaining Phase Two of the election will be held on January 11, 2026, while Phase Three is scheduled for January 25.
