More Than 6,000 Prisoners Granted Amnesty Nationwide

The military council announced that a total of 6,134 prisoners from various prisons across Myanmar have been granted amnesty and released.
It is reported that, in commemoration of the 78th Independence Day observed on January 4, a total of 6,134 prisoners nationwide, along with 52 foreign prisoners, were granted amnesty. The foreign prisoners were released and deported.
Regarding the 6,134 prisoners who were granted amnesty within the country, the military council stated that if they commit another offense in the future, they will be required to serve not only the new sentence but also the remaining portion of their previous sentence. The amnesty was granted with these conditions as part of a sentence reduction, according to the announcement.
In addition, the military council also announced that prisoners serving sentences for political offenses and various other crimes have been granted a reduction of one-sixth of their remaining sentences.
