Due to difficult transportation access, Hpung Ngai Yang IDP camp faces challenges in house construction and settlement. However, with support from KBC Humanirian Development Department (HDD), displaced people have been able to build houses, and most of the construction has now been completed, according to IDPs.

As the displacement period has become prolonged and return to their places of origin is still not possible, IDPs said that newly needed houses are being rebuilt with the help of KBC HDD.

“We have been staying in the IDP camp for a long time. The houses we were living in were only temporary shelters, so over time they became worn out. Now, with assistance from KBC, financial support has been provided for 200 houses, and construction is ongoing. Most of them are already completed,” said an IDP camp focal person.

Although most of the 200 houses under the current assistance program have been completed, support is still needed for the remaining 15 households, according to sources.

The residents sheltering in Hpung Ngai Yang IDP camp are from 252 households who fled villages such as Sumpi Yang, Nsi Yang, and Wa Dat along the Myitkyina-Putao road due to fighting that occurred on 11 May 2024.
