In Myitkyina, Kachin State, traffic police have distributed leaflets warning motorcycle riders to follow traffic regulations, announcing that from July onwards, motorcycles not complying with the rules will be seized.
Since the last week of May, authorities have already started seizing unlicensed vehicles in Myitkyina. In June and July, motorcycles without proper license plates and drivers without valid licenses will also be targeted for inspection and seizure.
According to the distributed leaflet, riders found violating traffic regulations will be prosecuted according to the law. The leaflet outlines several rules:
Riders must wear a quality helmet with the chin strap properly fastened.
No more than two people are allowed on a motorcycle.
All motorcycles (including battery-powered ones) must have official license plates.
Rearview mirrors must always be attached.
The low beam headlight must be turned on at all times, day and night.
Riders must carry a valid driving license.
Overloading is strictly prohibited.
Currently, unlicensed vehicles are being seized both during the day and after 8 PM in Myitkyina.
