Myanmar Ministry of Education Announces Free Support in Government Basic Education Schools

The Ministry of Education in Naypyitaw announced today, May 21, that no fees at all will be collected during school enrollment for the 2026–2027 academic year in government basic education schools, and that support will be provided free of charge.


According to the statement, no fees whatsoever will be collected, including school fees, parent-teacher association fees, sports fees, stationery fees, and library fees. It also stated that textbooks, notebooks, pencils, and pens will be provided free of charge.


The announcement also detailed the items that will be provided free of charge for students from Kindergarten (KG) to Grade 12.


In addition, the Ministry of Education urged parents and guardians not to give money or gifts to school principals, teachers, or school staff.


Similarly, children under the age of 15 whose education was interrupted after 2021 will be allowed to re-enroll in school after taking a Placement Test, according to the announcement.
