Myitkyina – Mogaung Train Transportation, which has been running for almost two months, still lacks in passengers

Kachin State’s Myitkyina – Mogaung train has been running for almost two months, but there are just few passengers till now.

“Recently, when the train arrives at the station, just ten people gets off the train and there were no people in the previous months who took the train” said a cart bike driver near the station yard.

The train that started departing from Mogaung Station arrived at Myitkyina Station at around 9:00 AM in the morning and it departs again to Mogaung from Myitkyina Station at 2:00 PM has been running daily from Myitkyina Station to Mogaung Station for over a month now.

Although the train has been running for almost 2 months, there were not much passengers, but around ten passengers in which most of them are family members of the military officials or personnel.

According to a local near Myitkyina station, the train transportation from Myitkyina to Mogaung started running on 1st November and the passengers were allowed to travel for free within a month, but even today there are still very few passengers.

“No passengers were seen taking the train transportation. The locals might be afraid because of the letter issued by PDF. But the train runs every day. It would only be a waste of fuel”.

According to the locals, the reason why the passengers did not take the train is because the Mogaung Defense Force issued a warning letter to not travel with train on November 1.

In the statement, the Mogaung People’s Defense Force (PDF) has issued a letter warning people not to take the Myitkyina – Mogaung train as it is running under SAC and they might be transporting personnels using the train.

Myanmar Railways was banned after 2021 and started running again after 2 years, on the 1st of November this year.
