Although the Myitkyina-Putao road has been reopened, it has been reported that only downbound vehicles are allowed to travel, while upbound vehicles are still prohibited.
According to reports, the gate at Lamung Zup checkpoint, which had been closed since October 23 by the Military Commission, was reopened on the morning of October 27. However, only vehicles traveling down from Putao have been permitted to pass.
The Myitkyina-Putao road is one that has frequently been closed due to military tensions between junta forces and resistance groups.
Because of these closures, local residents have faced soaring prices for goods and fuel. Last year, the road was shut down for nearly three months starting from March due to the battle for the capture of Sumpra Bum town, causing severe fuel shortages that affected farming activities.
Now, as the harvest season approaches, locals are once again worried about the prolonged road closures.
