The Myanmar traditional cultural Maha Thingyan Festival will be celebrated in a lively and grand manner in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, in 2026. According to the organizing committee, preparations are already underway, including the construction of a central pavilion, traditional dance performances, and many more events.

This year, walking Thingyan festivals will be held along Sumpra Bum Main Road, at Min Kyae Public Square, and at the Ayeyarwady Park in Myitkyina.

During last year’s Thingyan period, the festival could not be held in Myitkyina due to a strong earthquake that struck Sagaing Region in March. As a result, the central Thingyan pavilion that had been built for the celebration was dismantled.

For this year’s upcoming Myanmar traditional Maha Thingyan Festival, it is reported that not only in Myitkyina, but also in other towns across Kachin State, the celebrations will be held in accordance with traditional customs in a lively and festive manner.
