Due to intensified clashes and military operations, residents from Nam Ya village along the Hpakant road, who had fled into forested and mountainous areas, have now been relocated and sheltered by the Nam Ya Baptist Church.
According to the church, "From April 2025 until July 2, Nam Ya residents displaced and hiding in forests, fields, and hills were able to be brought out and given shelter on July 2."
Since April 24, following military advances, airstrikes, and heavy artillery attacks leading to battles with the KIA, thousands of civilians including those from Nam Ya, fled for safety. Most Nam Ya villagers sought refuge in Hpakant, Myitkyina, with relatives, while some remained hiding in the forests until recently.
Currently, those relocated by the authorities are now in safer shelters, but IDPs say they still urgently need food, medicine, and nutrition for children.
Nam Ya village, with over 600 houses and nearly 3,000 people, has suffered significant destruction, with many homes burned down due to shelling and airstrikes.
