Namti Town Starlink WiFi Devices Ordered to Shut Down

In Namti town, Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, it has been learned that since last week, armed men have been going around ordering the shutdown of Starlink WiFi devices.

“It has been four days now without Starlink WiFi. They’ve been going from one house to another, and to WiFi shops in town, telling them to shut down. They also carry guns, I heard. We don’t know how far this shutdown will go,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous.

Residents also said that while armed men have been telling households and shops with Starlink WiFi setups to close them down, no devices have yet been confiscated. They speculated that it might be in preparation for collecting taxes.

Similarly, in July, in Hkawng Lang Hpu township, it was learned that local militia had seized Starlink WiFi devices under higher level orders.
