Due to continuous airstrikes by the junta on Bhamaw town in Kachin State, nearly 88 percent of civilian homes have been destroyed, according to human rights activists from Bhamaw District.
Since early August, after junta naval units arrived in Bhamaw, clashes have intensified, and the junta’s daily air bombardments have continued.
Because of these relentless airstrikes, local civilians have been forced to flee to safer areas as displaced persons, while many of their homes have been left damaged or destroyed.
In addition, it is reported that the junta has been recalling government staff members who had previously been serving under its administration, ordering them to return and take up duties again in Bhamaw.
Bhamaw, the second largest city in Kachin State, has been the site of a large scale urban battle for more than eight months. Most of the junta’s military bases there have already been seized by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces.
