Although there have been no direct clashes in Hpakant recently, residents say that shelling, gunfire, and drone attacks occur almost every day, both day and night.“In Hpakant, there isn’t a single day without the sound of gunfire. If not during the day, then at night. There’s never a quiet time. The military fires whenever they want just indiscriminate shooting. Sometimes, they keep firing continuously for hours. When that happens, our side fires back, and then things go quiet for two or three days before it starts again,” a local resident told Pajau Media.

According to information received, the continuous artillery and drone strikes by the military council have caused civilian casualties in Hpakant. On November 18, locals near the Hpakant Mashi Kahtawng area were struck by a drone attack while jade miners were working, resulting in deaths among the miners. The site hit by the drone was a place where local people were working legally, and due to the military council’s indiscriminate attacks at any time and place, residents are now struggling to make a living.

Since the military council forces entered Hpakant, clashes have occurred frequently, and the current situation remains highly tense. Reports confirm that airstrikes, artillery shelling, and drone attacks continue to take place. On November 16, even though no active clashes were reported in the Waimaw Kanpaiti road, the military council carried out an airstrike near Sadung village. There were, however, no civilian casualties reported from that particular attack.

According to a report from the Kachin Human Rights Team, during the month of October, a total of nine civilians were killed or injured across Kachin State. Among them, one person was killed in an airstrike, while eight were injured three from airstrikes, three from drone attacks, and two from artillery shelling.
