According to a statement from the Prisoners of Political Networks Myanmar (PPNM), the majority of political prisoners in Kachin State and Sagaing Region have not been released during the recent amnesty, including those unlawfully detained under Section 505 (a) by the military.

Since November 27, 2025, some political prisoners across Myanmar, including those imprisoned under Section 505 (a), were reportedly granted amnesty, allegedly for election purposes. However, most political prisoners in Kachin State and Sagaing Region have not yet been released.

PPNM reported that in prisons such as Myitkyina and Monyin in Kachin State, political prisoners detained under Section 505 (a) remain incarcerated.

The military continues to arbitrarily arrest political prisoners under selective laws, releasing only those they choose during amnesty periods. Moreover, there have been instances where political prisoners who were released under amnesty were subsequently re arrested, prompting PPNM to warn of ongoing risks and the need for vigilance.
