The National Unity Government (NUG) announced on November 6 that people can report to the NUG if they are being threatened or coerced to vote in the upcoming nationwide election organized by the military junta.
The NUG stated that forcing or intimidating citizens to vote constitutes a violation of human rights and an act of electoral violence.
It also declared that any coercion or pressure to vote or to participate in advance voting will be subject to legal action in accordance with the law.
Currently, candidates running in the election are conducting campaign activities, while on the other hand, those who oppose or criticize the junta’s planned election whether through public statements or on social media are being arrested and prosecuted by the military.
Among those arrested for rejecting or boycotting the election are also some artists, and it is reported that nearly 90 people have been detained so far.
