Due to frequent and unpredictable airstrikes by the military junta across the country, the Ministry of Education under the National Unity Government (NUG) has announced the temporary suspension of all community-based education schools. The official statement notes that junta forces have been deliberately targeting schools, hospitals, and other public gathering places with airstrikes and heavy artillery, committing daily acts that amount to war crimes against humanity.
To prevent further loss of life among children, teachers, and civilians, all NUG-recognized ground-based basic, higher, and vocational community schools have been closed from May 25, 2025, until further notice, with no set reopening date. This decision will remain in effect until additional guidance is issued.
From March 28 to May 16, 2025, there were 445 reported airstrikes by the junta nationwide, resulting in the deaths of up to 416 civilians, according to NUG sources.
