The National Unity Government (NUG) has issued a statement urging Myanmar nationals temporarily residing in Thailand whether fleeing the oppressive military regime in Myanmar or seeking economic opportunities to comply with Thai laws and regulations.

Myanmar nationals are reminded not to involve themselves in Thailand’s political or administrative matters, to refrain from participating in any unlawful activities, and to respect Thai laws, rules, culture, customs, and local regulations. They are also urged to live harmoniously in accordance with the values and lifestyles of the host community, according to the NUG Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ notice released today, January 14.

This reminder comes amid at least three recent clashes involving Myanmar nationals in Thailand. The NUG’s statement emphasizes the importance of maintaining peaceful coexistence with Thai citizens during this period.

On January 13, 2026, in Phan Thong town, Chonburi province, Thailand, two groups of Myanmar nationals armed with weapons reportedly fought each other. As a result of the clash, one Myanmar national sustained stab wounds and was hospitalized.
