A sergeant and a comrade who were hiding near the bus station in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State were shot dead by three armed men on a motorbike while they were buying food at a restaurant at about five o’clock yesterday evening (on February 4th).

“When I heard the sound of gunshots, I looked and saw that both of them were already dead on the bench in front of the restaurant. We didn’t look carefully because we didn’t dare to look and we are also afraid of being called or investigated by the police,” said the young local.

Regarding this incident, the residents of the town are worried that the situation will be unstable. And at around 7:00 PM, the Mohnyin heavy artillery force was firing heavy weapons.

The armed men who shot a sergeant and a comrade were wearing civilian clothes, so it was not possible to tell which organization or group they belonged to.

The sergeant and his comrade who were shot and killed were members of the 15th infantry Regiment who were hiding near Mohnyin university and Chinese cemetery in Mohnyin Town.
