In Kachin State’s Hpakant Township, artillery shelling by the military targeting Lone Khin Village destroyed one house by fire and left five civilians either dead or injured, according to sources.

The junta forces reportedly began firing heavy artillery from a strategic hill position at around 11:00 a.m. on May 17. At approximately 12:00 noon, shells landed and exploded in Ward 4 of Lone Khin Village.

As a result of the shelling, one house in Ward 4 caught fire after being directly hit. It was also reported that five civilians living in the house were affected, with three women killed and two other civilians injured.

Local residents and social welfare groups transported the victims, while the two injured individuals are reportedly still receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has warned local residents to remain cautious in their movements and daily activities, as fighting could intensify due to the military junta’s continued troop offensives in the Hpakant area.
