Online Solicitors Increasingly Targeting Women in Myitkyina to Become Chinese Bosses' temporary partner and Arrange Sponsors

In recent days, more people have been soliciting women through social media using fake accounts, encouraging them to become temporary partner of Chinese bosses for drinking, using drugs and exploration and offering to arrange sponsors, according to a woman from Myitkyina.

These solicitors, using fake accounts, claim in Kachin language that Chinese businessmen are looking for young women and that they can help arrange sponsorships, she said.

It was observed that such solicitors especially target attractive young women and girls from Myitkyina, raising concerns that during this time of economic and political hardship, young women may fall victim to financial exploitation, said a woman.

In addition, women in Myitkyina are already frequently experiencing crimes such as muggings and knife attacks on a daily basis, while also facing online fraud and deceptive recruitment attempts, she added.

Particularly, the recruiters are not only fluent in Burmese but also speak fluently in Kachin language, persuading women. It has also been learned that some fraudsters have taken out loans using women’s photos, names, and other social media information.In recent days, there have also been numerous cases of muggings and knife related arrests in Myitkyina, most of the offenders reported to be teenage boys and young men.
