Over 1.45 Billion Kyats Worth of Narcotics Seized and 122 Arrested in Kachin State in Five Months, Says Chief Minister Hkyet Hting Nan

Kachin State Chief Minister U Hkyet Hting Nan announced that, within the five-month period from January to May this year, authorities in Kachin State seized narcotics worth over 1.45 billion kyats and arrested 122 individuals involved in drug-related crimes. He made these remarks during the 38th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking event held on June 26.


During the ceremony, the Chief Minister also stated that a total of 181 drug-related cases, with an estimated value of 2.95 billion kyats, had been transferred from Kachin State to the Mandalay Region Police Force for incineration and destruction.


He added that, although local anti-narcotics government teams across Kachin State have intensified their operations, the threat of narcotics remains significant.


In 2024 alone, authorities in Kachin State managed to apprehend 407 offenders in connection with 288 drug-related cases, with the value of seized drugs totaling approximately 5.23 billion kyats.
