According to a statement released by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), more than 1,500 innocent civilians have been killed by military airstrikes during the five years since the coup.
Based on data collected by AAPP, a total of 1,505 confirmed civilian deaths have resulted from the military junta’s violent air attacks, with at least another 1,349 unconfirmed deaths reported.
Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of airstrike-related deaths, with 520 civilians killed between 2021 and 2025. In Kachin State, at least 69 civilians lost their lives due to airstrikes during the same period.
Additionally, the total number of civilians killed by the junta’s forces has reached 6,840 since the coup. The number of political prisoners arrested since the military takeover has risen to 29,342.
Among those arrested are 6,114 women and 620 children. As of now, 22,184 people—including 4,270 women and 247 children—remain in detention.
Since the military seized power, anti-coup resistance movements have emerged nationwide. The junta has responded with force, using weapons and airstrikes even in areas with no active fighting, continuing its campaign of violence against civilians.
