It has been learned from local residents that in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, at the upper part of Lae Hmee Village, more than sixty drug addicts were brought in by a dump truck and abandoned there.
According to a villager from Lae Hmee area:“A truck came into the village and dropped them off. There were over 60 drug users, including six women. Most of them only had a single piece of clothing on their bodies. Some had no shoes, some no shirts at all. They had no food and no money, so they wandered around the village begging for food.
People feared they might start committing thefts or robberies, so they were loaded onto a truck and taken to Mohnyin town, where there is a market and more available food. These days, we hear people talk about dumping garbage; now they are dumping people like garbage.”
It was reported that the dump truck carrying the drug users came on August 15 around 10:00 a.m., when an unidentified vehicle abandoned them.
Among those who were abandoned were six women, bringing the total to more than sixty. They had each been given a small pack of rice and ten thousand kyat before being left in Mohnyin town. The majority had no shoes or proper clothing, wearing only a single piece of cloth on their bodies, and continued to beg around the town.
At present, they are roaming throughout Mohnyin town asking for food, and for temporary shelter they have been staying at the hall of Kyar Phyu Pagoda.
