Around 1,000 people from the Sumpyi Yang village in Putao Township have been fleeing to Hpung Ngai Yang IDP Camp since May 2024. This month, they are forced to flee further into the forest due to fears of airstrikes.

From October to early November 2025, there have been at least five air attacks by the SAC in the directions of Putao Township and Hkawng Lang Hpu Township. There have also been air bombings along the Putao–Myitkyina road.

In Nsai Yang village, located between Sumpyi Yang and Hpung Ing Yang IDP Camp, an air bombing occurred on 12 November 2025, forcing both the IDPs and local residents to flee to safer areas, a refugee said.

"Recently, planes have been frequently flying. In Nsai Yang village, which is very close to our IDP camp, there was a bombing the other day. In our camp (Hpung Ngai Yang), along the road to Myitkyina, bombings could happen as houses are made of bamboo and thatch. That’s why almost the whole village has been fleeing into the forest these days," said an IDP.

As IDP from Hpung Ngai Yang IDP Camp continue fleeing into the forest, the elderly and young children are facing extreme hardship and suffering.
