In Mansi Township, Kachin State, including areas such as Manwin Gyi, Namkham, and Inbapa, pregnant mothers and children under five are facing difficulties receiving vaccinations due to challenges in medicine transportation and shortages. It is also reported that traveling to other towns to get vaccinated is problematic.

“Vaccinations are no longer provided here, so we have to go to Muse town to get vaccinated. Some mothers come from very difficult and remote areas but still cannot get vaccinated. Only those who have pre-purchased vaccine coupons get vaccinated. Those who come without coupons have to wait in line for a long time but still don’t get vaccinated,” said a resident of Manwin Gyi.

Only those who have pre-purchased vaccine coupons are able to get vaccinated. Others, despite spending money and traveling through difficult routes, have to return without receiving the vaccine.

Although vaccinations are supposed to be free, the shortage caused by pre-purchased coupons means many are unable to get vaccinated, the local resident added.

“Some have been queuing since around 3 AM but still didn’t get vaccinated. Even some with coupons were not vaccinated. Because of this, they are told to come back next month. Those who come despite difficulties often leave without vaccination,” the resident explained.

Since 2024, due to ongoing conflict, vaccinations have only been available by traveling to Muse town. On May 22, pregnant women and children also went to get vaccinated, according to local sources.
