According to drivers, the Putao-Myitkyina road, which had been closed by the military junta, is currently being opened only once a week, with travel permitted on those limited occasions.
“They only open the gate about once a week. There’s no fixed schedule, they open it whenever they want,” said one driver.
He added that because the junta does not set a specific day for opening the gates, many drivers have to wait in long queues at checkpoints such as Lamung Zup and Tanghpre.
Due to these restrictions, the flow of goods in and out of the Putao area has sharply decreased, leading to a rise in prices of fuel and other commodities.
The military junta suddenly closed the Putao-Myitkyina road on October 23, restricting the movement of passengers and vehicles since then.
